About us

At the San Francisco Math Circle, we make math accessible, inclusive, and fun!

The SF Math Circle is an extracurricular math enrichment program that encourages students from diverse backgrounds to develop their identities as mathematical thinkers in a supportive, collaborative, and fun environment.

In our after-school classes and camps, we promote positive attitudes towards math and learning through engaging, hands-on puzzles and games that involve both creativity and critical thinking.

Students explore these puzzles and games in small groups where they have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and to receive personalized attention and support from SF Math Circle facilitators.

Please note that our focus is primarily on helping students to engage in creative mathematical exploration and problem-solving rather than building their skills in arithmetic or other traditional K-12 math.

Our Classes

Classes meet once per week and each class is 1 hour. Students spend the majority of the period exploring in small groups. There are typically 15-20 students per class and 4-6 students and one SF Math Circle facilitator per group.

Cost & Financial Aid

The tuition for the Spring 2023 term of the Jose Ortega Math Circle is $315 for the 9-week session.

We offer payment plans! If you opt for a payment plan, you can pay a portion of the full tuition upfront, and then pay the remaining amount in monthly installments.

If you're currently unable to afford the full tuition, you can use a financial aid discount code for reduced tuition when registering via ActivityHero:

  • Use code AID50-JO for 50% reduced tuition
  • Use code AID90-JO for 90% reduced tuition (you pay 10%)

Please note: Only families who are eligible for free or reduced lunch may use financial aid discount codes. In addition, we have a limited number of reduced tuition spaces. If the code you're trying to use is not working, it means that we no longer have any reduced tuition spaces available.

To use a financial aid code: After you've added the session you want to your cart and clicked "Proceed to Checkout," you should be taken to a page where you can enter your billing information. Click the "Add a promo or discount code" text at the top of this page and enter either "AID50-JO" or "AID90-JO".

If you can afford to pay more than the standard tuition to help us offer financial aid to families in need, please select the option to pay $365 to donate $50 to our financial aid fund.

Please note: If you'd like to donate more than $50 to our financial aid fund, you can do so via our Donate page.

The tuition we charge allows us to cover the costs of the resources we provide, including:

  • Activity design and development
  • Instructor training and preparation
  • Low student-to-instructor ratios

We appreciate your support in keeping Math Circle both accessible and sustainable!
